Air classifiers are used to separate particles in dry powder. Like screens, you have a plus fraction (Coarse) and a minus fraction (fines). Unlike screens which typically start to blind around 44um (325 mesh), air classifiers can be used to separate particles in the sub-micron range.
The Micro-Sizer® Air Classifier is a precision dry powder separation system engineered to deliver sharp, repeatable cut points across a wide range of particle sizes and materials. Developed as an original air-classification platform and refined through decades of real-world industrial operation, the Micro-Sizer® is designed for processes where consistency, efficiency, and long-term reliability matter more than marketing claims.
Unlike mechanical screening systems that suffer from blinding, wear, and limited resolution, the Micro-Sizer® uses controlled aerodynamic and centrifugal forces to separate material based on particle size, density, and shape. The result is a clean, highly selective separation with predictable performance — from pilot-scale testing to full-scale production exceeding 180 tons per hour.
At the core of the Micro-Sizer® is a proprietary internal airflow and sealing architecture that allows operators to precisely control classification conditions without sacrificing throughput or yield. Fine and coarse fractions are produced with exceptional selectivity, enabling tight particle size distributions that remain stable over extended production runs.
This is not a theoretical design. The Micro-Sizer® is the result of decades of applied engineering and continuous feedback from industrial installations processing abrasive, cohesive, and difficult-to-classify materials. Its performance is defined by experience in production environments, not laboratory assumptions.
The Micro-Sizer® is especially effective in applications requiring consistent ultra-fine separation, reliable cut-point control, high fines recovery, and minimal sensitivity to feed variations.
Efficiency is built into the Micro-Sizer® platform. Through optimized airflow paths and internal geometry, the system routinely operates at significantly lower horsepower than many legacy or derivative classifiers while maintaining — or improving — separation sharpness.
Because the classification mechanism scales predictably, results achieved in pilot or small production units translate directly to larger machines. This allows customers to design systems with confidence, avoid costly oversizing, and achieve target specifications without extended trial-and-error commissioning.
Progressive Industries, Inc. offers eight standard Micro-Sizer® models, with feed rates ranging from a few hundred pounds per hour to more than 180 tons per hour, ensuring the correct machine for both development and full-scale production environments.
The Micro-Sizer® Air Classifier is ruggedly constructed for continuous duty in demanding industrial settings. Internal components are designed to minimize wear, reduce maintenance intervals, and maintain performance over time — even in abrasive or high-throughput applications.
Unlike later-market, copy-based designs, the Micro-Sizer® reflects a mature engineering platform that has been continuously refined rather than repeatedly reinvented. Its longevity in the field is a direct result of intentional design choices made to prioritize performance stability, serviceability, and real operating conditions.
This is equipment built to run — not just to demonstrate.
The Micro-Sizer® integrates easily into new or existing process lines and can operate as a standalone classifier or as part of a closed-circuit grinding and classification system. It interfaces seamlessly with mills, cyclones, baghouses, and downstream handling equipment.
Custom configurations are available to match specific materials, cut-point requirements, construction materials, and plant constraints. Each system is engineered with a practical understanding of how air classification fits into the overall process — not treated as an isolated component.

The Micro-Sizer® Air Classifier is not an experimental concept or a re-packaged solution. It is a proven industrial tool engineered to deliver consistent results, reduce operating costs, and provide long-term value in real production environments.
For operations that demand precise particle control, reliable performance, and equipment designed by engineers who understand air classification at a fundamental level, the Micro-Sizer® remains the benchmark.
Whether you are using a roller mill, bowl mill or any other air swept mill, the MICRO-SEAL® makes the MICRO SIZER RMC® system superior to other air swept mill classifiers.
